MCCCD MAT Executive Council 1995 - 96 Year End Report Dialogue with the Chancellor Purpose: To engage the Chancellor in an interchange through open discussion of ideas relating to the most relevant challenges facing MCCCD at present and the future. To discuss how these will impact the role and organization of the MAT employee group. Members are: Raul S. Monreal, Jr. (Chairperson) Nancy Markowski Carol Wilson Patti Johnson Raul Sandoval Dialogue with the Chancellor The Committee met three times with the Chancellor due to his leave and other prior commitments. The dialogue was informative and beneficial. The agenda items were generic yet relevant to all MAT members. The Chancellor welcomes the opportunity to share information while at the same time wants to know what is happening with MAT and how we are coping with change and leadership roles. He wants MAT to embrace change and to model leadership to the rest of the district employees. The Chancellor wants all MAT to support Apollo/Oracle. He believes that this will once again put us on the map relative to technology and the Learner Centered System. Another agenda item discussed was the idea of focusing on another bond. The Chancellor immediately answered that another bond issue was not under consideration; we need to complete the one we just passed which will take us to the year 2001. He brought to our attention that the City of Phoenix and elementary and secondary feeder schools are seeking funds and may request our advice. Maybe this is why we hear discussion about bond elections. The Chancellor informed us that we need to keep up to date on the changing demographics. That we must evaluate how we are delivering services and evaluate the way we do things now. Training or retraining will become very important to all of us. The Chancellor has no desire to convert colleges into universities during his tenure. We informed him that we were going to have a MAT Executive Council retreat and that one of the agenda items to discuss was a study recently conducted regarding the need to divide the MAT group into different levels. We hope we can provide information to him when we meet with him on July 10, 1996. RECOMMENDATIONS: Study different issues or innovative approaches and share them with the Chancellor. Identify strategies that will get MAT involved in the change process. Continue Leadership Training through the Management Breakfast Series. This is not only necessary but timely. Continue the dialogue with the Chancellor.
