Adult Basic Reading Skills II
A basic sequential reading program for the adult who has been raised in an English speaking environment yet needs acquisition of basic reading skills. Includes intermediate level phonics, structural analysis, comprehension, vocabulary development, and listening skills.
Prerequisites: Placement in this class based on faculty interviews and assessment at time of registration.

2. Identify the pronunciation of consonants that have variant sounds. (I)
3. Identify the pronunciation of vowel digraphs in words. (II)
4. Identify the pronunciation of vowel diphthongs in words. (II)
5. Identify the consonant blend in the final position oF words. (III)
6. Interpret common contractions. (IV)
7. Form compound words by combining two known words. (IV)
8. Define words to which common prefixes and suffixes have been added. (IV)
9. Use the alphabetical order of the first letter of words to locate words in the dictionary. (V)
10. Identify, pronounce, spell, and use basic sight words. (V)
11. Identify the correct usage for common homophones. (V)
12. Identify the main idea of a short reading passage (second- fourth grade reading level). (VI)
13. Write complete sentences to answer questions about a reading passage. (VI)
14. Write a title and a conclusion for a reading passage. (VI)
