Tile Setting II
Provides information on accessory installation, surface preparation, and the setting of various types of tile on flat surfaces. Provides experience in laying tile on various flat surface structures.
Prerequisites: Apprenticeship status and TDR150.

1. Identify accossories the tile setter installs and describe how insertsand accessories are installed. (I)
2. Identify the basic components of an expansion joint, and describe how elastomeric sealants are used and how sealant failures can be avoided.(I)
3. Explain why good tile layout is important and describe a diagnoal layout how tile layouts are planned and how showers are squared. (II)
4. Describe how vertical surfaces are prepared for tile work when sand blasting is required and how dead cement is removed. (II)
5. Identify the recommended bond coats and describe how tiles are applied on vertical surfaces and what is meant by "open time." (III)
6. Describe how wood, concrete, and steel surfaces are prepared for tile work. (II)
7. Describe how tiles are set on horizontal surfaces and how grout is cured and identify the methods used to apply the pure coat. (II)
8. Describe how newly installed tile surfaces should be cleaned and maintained. (III)
9. Identify the methods used in floating floor mortar and describe how quarry and mosiac tile floors are laid and how quarry rack is used. (III)
10. Identify the special tiling features required in a steam room and describe how control joints are established and how drainage is provided in a steam room. (III)
11. Describe how a ceiling is laid out, how ceiling mortar is applied, andhow ceiling tiles are installed. (III)
12. Describe how the setting bed is prepared for mosiac tile work. How mosiac tiles are set in place, and how colored grouts are prepared. (III)
13. Identify where ceramic tile veneer is used, how it is laid out and howit is installed. (III)
14. Identify the precautions required when marble tile is being set and the bonding materials which are used with marble tile, and describe how marble tile is installed. (III)
15. Describe how tiled drain boards and tiled pullmans are installed. (III)
16. Explain what a V Cap is and how it is used. (III)
17. Demonstrate laying tile on both horizontal and vertical flat surfaces of various structures including surface preparation and layout. (II, III)
