Basic
Surgical Procedures |

Responsibilities of surgical technician in pre-operative,
intra-operative, and post-operative periods. Needles, sutures, and syringes.
Procedures for instrument count. Proper positioning, prepping, and dressing
procedures. Demonstration of complete set-up and procedure for exploratory laprotomy. Prerequisites: Admission to the Surgical
Technology program. |

1. Demonstrate
principles of asepsis and safety in handling of instruments. (I)
2. Load,
pass, and assemble specific instruments and demonstrate hand signals. (I)
3. Identify
wound closure classifications and show how to use types of sutures and suturing
methods. (II)
4. Describe
parts and types of needles, and demonstrate mounting, threading and passing
needles. (III)
5. Show
how to use surgical sponges, dressings, drains, tubes, and catheters and demonstrate

6. Apply
