Introductory survey of all aspects of room design. Taste and consumerism in the purchase of home furnishings. Principles of room design for creating your own surroundings. Open to interior design majors and all interested students. Prerequisites: None.

1. Identify and describe the various components of the interior design profession as they relate to career choices and educational requirements. (I)
2. Identify the professional organizations associated with interior design. (I)
3. Describe and demonstrate the use of the elements of design in selection and arrangement of interior furnishings. (II)
4. Describe and demonstrate the use of the principles of design in selection and arrangement of interior furnishings. (III)
5. Demonstrate an understanding of color principles as applied to the design of interior spaces. (IV)
6. Read and evaluate residential floor plans. (V)
7. Utilize accepted standards for functional planning of residential spaces. (V)
8. Identify and distinguish interior materials appropriate for various interior surface applications. (VI)
9. Identify and describe styles of windows and the various hard and soft treatments available. (VII)
10. Identify and describe components of interior lighting design. (VIII)
11. Distinguish types of furniture and explain criteria for judging quality of furniture. (IX)
12. Identify appropriate interior accessories and demonstrate proper arrangement. (X)
