Applied Urinalysis

Application of basic urinalysis techniques in the clinical/medical setting. Proper collection and handling of urine specimens. Includes urinary microscopics and confirmatory testing as delineated by specific scopes of practice. Emphasis on chemical testing and interpretation. Prerequisites: HCE105AA or permission of instructor.

Perform specific gravity on urine using the refractometer. (II)

Describe principles, sensitivities, specificities, and sources of error involved in any of the test systems found on biochemical test strips. (II)

Perform a confirmatory test on those urinary substances (sugar, protein, ketones, and bilirubin) which are positive on the biochemical screen. (II)

Perform a urinary microscopic. (II)

7.

Correlate biochemical results with microscopic sediment results. (II)
