Chicano Literature
Introduction to the works of Mexican-American writers of the Southwest. Samples poetry, fiction, and essays viewed in their relationship to American cultural heritage and to contemporary culture. Prerequisites: ENG101.

1.	Identify and define critical terms, literary techniques, literary movements, themes, imagery, and critical approaches used in analyzing Chicano poetry. (I)
2.	Identify major Chicano poets and describe their contributions to literature. (I)
3.	Compose a well-organized, coherent, logically supported essay that combines original thought with ideas from outside sources while supporting a clear, unified thesis related to the subject of Chicano poetry. (I)

5.	Identify major Chicano fiction writers and describe their contributions to literature. (II)
