Introduction to the works of Mexican-American writers of the Southwest. Samples poetry, fiction, and essays viewed in their relationship to American cultural heritage and to contemporary culture. Prerequisites: ENG101.

2. Identify major Chicano poets and describe their contributions to literature. (I)
3. Compose a well-organized, coherent, logically supported essay that combines original thought with ideas from outside sources while supporting a clear, unified thesis related to the subject of Chicano poetry. (I)
