Instructional Competency Laboratory: Cardiorespiratory Exercises and Activities

 

1.

Screen and classify participants prior to exercise participation based upon American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines. (I)

2.

Describe the benefits and specific exercises composing a proper warm-up and cool-down relative to a variety of physical activities. (II)

3.

Describe anatomical and physiological characteristics relative to cardiorespiratory exercises and activities. (III)

4.

Demonstrate effective exercises incorporating various measurements to enhance cardiorespiratory endurance in the general population. (IV)

5.

Develop programs that will enhance cardiorespiratory fitness and help to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. (V)

6.

Differentiate between appropriate and contraindicated exercises for the majority of an apparently healthy adult population. (VI)

7.

Develop safe and effective cardiorespiratory programs for individuals of varying physical abilities and needs. (VII)

8.

Develop cardiorespiratory programs for symptomatic adults and other special needs populations. (VIII)

9.

Demonstrate the techniques and skills critical to effective and motivating instruction for individuals, and groups. (IX)

10.

Explain the most recent ACSM recommendations for the quantity and quality of exercise for developing cardiorespiratory fitness in healthy adults. (X)
