Computer Illustration
Introduction to the multiple elements of commercial illustration using the microcomputer. Basic foundation in the use of computer techniques including color paint and draw programs for the production of commercial illustrations for publications and printed matter. Use of video input, slide image transfer, gray scale scanners, and output production devices. Prerequisites or Corequisites: ART100 or permission of instructor.

1. Describe the basic operation of illustration software as compared to traditional illustration processes. (I)
2. Identify the general characteristics of the microcomputer and specialized equipment required to generate commercial illustration productions. (II)
3. Utilize page layout compositional theories as related to and incorporated into the foundational elements of illustration. (III, IV, VI, VII)
4. Use various computer drawing and painting skills, knowledge of color, design and perspective. (IV, VI, VII)
5. Edit graphic information received from external sources through various mediums and reformat that information for use in the computer environment. (IV, VI, VII)
6. Utilize graphic input devices and apply the characteristics of each device on the production of a finished commercial illustration. (V, VI, VII)
7. Design camera-ready black and white illustrations through the use of specific software packages. (VI)
8. Design camera-ready illustrations that include scaling, halftones, and multi-color separations. (VII)
9. Employ design and composition to critically evaluate commercial illustrations. (VIII)
10. Execute final illustrations using hardcopy from an appropriate printer. (IV, VI, VII)
11. Prepare a professional portfolio. (IX)
