Operating Room Practicum II
Reinforcement and broadening of knowledge and skills of the surgical technologist required for pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care of the patient having general surgery including gastro-intestinal and/or endoscopic surgery. Prerequisites: BIO162AA, SGT101, SGT110, and SGT120.

1. Prepare, setup and utilize instruments, equipment and supplies during the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative periods. (I)
2. Utilize principles of asepsis and safety in the care of patients and equipment. (I)
3. Maintain consistent timing for passing instruments and equipment determined by surgeon's need. (II)
4. Identify anatomical parts and recognize abnormal or diseased conditions. (II)
5. Communicate affectively with physicians, patients and team members. (III)
6. Demonstrate ethical and professional relations in performing routine and special surgical procedures. (IV)
7. Describe specific responsibilities of each member of the surgical team and including personal and legal limitations. (IV)
8. Observe the patient for abnormal conditions when using anesthesia and pharmacologic agents. (V)
9. Identify emergency situations and demonstrate efficiency in following established rule and regulations. (VI)
