Nursing Science IV
A culminating clinical practice course to provide learning experiences applying theoretical and clinical concepts of complex needs of medical/surgical, obstetrical, and pediatric clients in selected areas of practice. The leaders, management, and caregiver roles of the professional nurse with clients and their families in a selected area of nursing practice are emphasized. Assignment of students to nurse preceptors with faculty guidance to focus on leadership and management and application of the nursing process theories, concepts, issues and trends in caring for clients in a variety of placements in acute and community health care settings. Prerequisites: NUR260, NUR262, NUR264, NUR266, and NUR268.

1. Demonstrate critical thinking skills to develop a plan of care specific to individualized client needs based on incorporating knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and age-related changes. (I, II)

7. Use therapeutic communication skills to collaborate with clients/families appropriate to their developmental level. (VI)
8. Demonstrate appropriate communication skills to collaborate with members of the health care team to include assertiveness, problem solving, delegation, and conflict resolution. (VI)
9. Apply concepts of critical care nursing to the safe and competent care of patients in the critical care unit with multiple and complex health problems. (II, V, VII)
10. Perform clinical skills including medication administration, hemodynamic monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, code procedures, and mechanical ventilation. (VII)
11. Outline a preceptor clinical experience that applies nursing theory and clinical practices that provides holistic, comprehensive nursing care under the guidance of a registered nurse. (I, V, VII)
