Operating Room Orientation
Orientation to the operating room, instrument processing room, decontamination instrument room and central supply. Assisting the surgical team, setting up equipment, applying monitoring equipment, insertion of catheters, positioning and prepping of the patients. Stocking rooms and transporting patients. Prerequisites: Admission to the Surgical Technology program.

1. Demonstrate correct safety measures when operating flash, high vacuum and steris autoclaving and sterilization systems. (I)
2. Demonstrate correct, operating room asepsis when wrapping and processing instruments, prepping, and catheterizing patients. (II)
3. Apply universal precautions principles when processing instruments and equipment. (III)
4. Organize supplies and equipment using the case cart and the doctor preference card systems for basic procedures. (IV)
5. Assist the surgical team in preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative procedures. (V)
6. Demonstrate appropriate, work-related communications with members of the health care team. (VI)
7. Assist with the admission and transportation of the presurgical and postsurgical patient. (VII)
