Intermediate Law Enforcement Spanish
Conversational and written Spanish. Intermediate structure and vocabulary practice that is law enforcement specific. Intermediate level speaking, listening, reading and writing ability in common job-related situations. Course conducted in Spanish. Prerequisites: A grade of B or better in SPA005AA and SPA109, or permission of the instructor.

2. Perform a traffic stop utilizing Spanish at the intermediate level. (VI)
3. Use and comprehend in conversation and writing, at an intermediate level of proficiency, the regular verbs in the present, preterit, imperfect, future, conditional, present perfect, pluperfect indicative, and imperfect subjunctive tenses. (I, IV)
4. Use and comprehend in conversation and writing, at an intermediate level of proficiency, the irregular verbs in the present, preterit, imperfect, future, conditional, present perfect, pluperfect indicative, and imperfect subjunctive tenses. (II, V)
5. Perform, in Spanish, in-depth interviews, in order of priority, pertaining to homicide, sex crimes, narcotics, and traffic accidents. (XI, XIII)
6. Utilizing intermediate level Spanish, perform three Field Sobriety Tests to include Horizontal Gaze Nystagumus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand. (VII)
7. Utilizing intermediate level Spanish, state specific interview questions on the Field Sobriety Tests. (VII)
8. Explain how to be aware whether or not a situation is a routine investigation or life-threatening by identifying common words and expressions used in threats. (IX, XI)
9. Read and summarize orally, descriptions of crime scenes from Mexican newspapers. (X, XI)
10. Listen, question, and take notes of what a crime victim is saying in Spanish with the goal of summarizing your findings in English. (XIV)
11. Read the Adult Miranda Warning in Spanish with an understandable pronunciation, and explain complex words and expressions with the correct Spanish synonyms. (XVI)
12. Read the Juvenile Miranda Warning in Spanish with an understandable pronunciation, and explain complex words and expressions with the correct Spanish synonyms. (XVI)

14. Interpret and translate 30 legal terms from Spanish to English and English to Spanish. (X)
15. Interpret and translate 10 common terms for weapons from slang and standard Spanish to slang and standard English and visa versa. (XI)
16. Demonstrate ability to do a consecutive interpretation at normal conversation speed with a 85% accuracy. (XII)
17. Create accurate notes of oral statements in Spanish or English and perform sight translations or interpretations of these statements. (XIV)
18. Describe potential cultural problems in law enforcement situations involving Spanish speaking individuals. (XV)
