Wastewater Collection Systems Operation and Maintenance

Overview of wastewater collection systems with an emphasis on inspection and cleaning of sewer systems. Safety considerations, maintenance and underground repair procedures also covered.

Identify sources and calculate quantities of wastewater flow. (I)

Identify safety procedures required when maintaining a wastewater collection system. (I)

Explain procedures for inspecting existing sewers for operation and maintenance problems. (II)

7.

Explain procedures for testing for leaks in joints, taps, sewers, and manholes. (II)

8.

Explain methods for locating and determining seriousness of inflow, infiltration, exfiltration, and diversion flow problems. (II)

9.

Explain methods to identify and evaluate damage due to corrosion, cracking, crushing, subsidence, root intrusion, stoppages, washouts and improper connections. (II)

10.

Identify types and causes of sewer stoppages. (III)

11.

Select proper methods to clear stoppages and clean sewers. (III)

12.

Determine equipment and staffing requirements for various sewer clearing and cleaning methods. (III)

13.

Develop a preventive maintenance program for sewer clearing and cleaning. (III)

Develop a program to control odors and corrosion from hydrogen sulfide. (III)

Explain procedures to safely repair or construct sewer lines and manholes. (IV)
