Nursing Process and Hospitalized Adults
Theories, concepts, and practice in application of the nursing process in the care of hospitalized adults with selected medical/surgical problems. Prerequisites: BIO202 or equivalent, and NUR211. Corequisites: NUR204, NUR214, NUR217, and CHM230. Permission of department required.

2. Examine the theoretical and conceptual bases of the nursing process. (II)

5. Explore teaching/learning principles and their application through thenursing process. (II)
6. Describe selected theories, concepts, and principles from nursing and the basic sciences in promoting, maintaining, and restoring health, and providing rehabilitation for adult clients. (III)
7. Apply the nursing process in providing theory and research-based nursing care to culturally diverse adult clients with discrete nursingdiagnosis in acute care settings. (II)
8. Identify individual accountability and responsibility when providing nursing care to adult clients in acute care settings. (II)
9. Assess the impact of uncomplicated alterations in health status and therapeutic treatment modalities on the health needs of adult clients, and plan appropriate nursing interventions. (III)
10. Consider the effects of selected cultural and spiritual beliefs and practices on health when planning nursing care. (II, IV)
11. Function as a member of a health care team in acute care agencies to assist clients toward restoration and/or optimal functioning. (III)
12. Include the client as an essential member of the decision-making team.(I)
13. Explore ethical decision-making in professional practice and selected legal/ethical issues affecting the care of the adult client in acute care settings. (II, IV)
