Machinery Preparation and Installation
Blueprint reading and sketching for the millwright. Layout, calculations and rigging for machinery and equipment movement and installation. Safety stressed. Prerequisites: Indentured apprentice status and MWR101 or permission of the Apprenticeship Coordinator.

1. Describe necessary planning steps for machinery installation. (I)
2. Identify, define and describe the types of drawings and drawing nomenclature for the millwright trade. (II)
3. Demonstrate basic drafting skills. (II)
4. Demonstrate techniques of freehand sketching. (II)
5. Interpret specifications and details from drawings needed for machinery installation. (II)
6. Demonstrate the proper use of layout tools and perform specific shop layout tasks. (III) & (IV)
7. Calculate weight and strength for steel beams and other specific structural forms. (V)
8. Compute the safe loads for rope, wire, slings, shackles, eyebolts, and specific rigging apparatus. (V)
9. Explain procedures and methods of rigging and machine moving. (V)
10. Describe safety in all aspects of rigging. (V)
