Basic grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary of the Portuguese language. Includes study of Lusophone culture. Practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Pronounce Brazilian Portuguese, using standard sound patterns and intonation. (I, IV)

Use approximately 1,200 words in Portuguese vocabulary. (I, III, IV)

Ask and answer basic questions in Portuguese, using various verb tenses. (I, III)

4.

Use Portuguese grammar and vocabulary to express personal ideas and opinions. (I, III, IV)

5.

Converse in simple spoken Portuguese. (I)

Identify and use selected Portuguese proverbs and songs. (II, IV)

7.

Read and explain, simple journalistic Portuguese, including cultural and geographic narratives. (II)
