Clinical Practicum II
Clinical experience with moderate supervision for physical therapist assisting students. Application of physical therapy skills and techniques in various clinical settings. Prerequisites: Department approval.

1. Prepare patients, treatment areas, and equipment for a physical therapy treatment. (I)
2. Implement physical therapy treatment programs that include: therapeutic exercise; gait training and techniques; activities of daily living (ADL) training techniques; administration of therapeutic heat and cold; administration of ultrasound; administration of therapeutic electric current; application of traction; performance of intermittent venous compression; administration of pulmonary hygiene techniques; application of external bandages, dressings, and support; and performance of goniometric measurement. (II)
3. Modify physical therapy treatment techniques as indicated in the plan of care. (III)
4. Respond to acute changes in patients' physiological states during physical therapy treatments. (IV)
5. Teach other health care providers, patients, and families to perform selected physical therapy treatment procedures and functional acitivities. (V)
6. Identify architectural barriers affecting patients receiving physical therapy. (VI)
7. Interact with physical therapy patients and families in a manner whichprovides the desired psychosocial support by: recognizing one's own raction to illness and disability; recognizing patients' and families'reactions to illness and disability; respecting individual cultural, religious, and socioeconomic differences in people; and utilizing appropriate communicative processess. (VII)
8. Write, speak, and communicate with physical therapy patients and their families, colleagues, and the public in a professional manner. (VIII)
9. List personal strengths and limitations and interpret for others personal scope and functions in physical therapy. (IX)
10. Demonstrate safe, ethical, and legal physical therapy practice. (X)
11. Describe and respond to concepts related to the health care system including multidisciplinary team approach, quality care, governmental agencies, private sector, role of other health care providers, health care facilities, issues and problems. (XI)
12. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of levels of authority and responsibility, planning, time management, supervisory process, performance evaluations, policies and procedures, and fiscal consideration (provider and consumer) for physical therapy practice settings. (XII)
