Rehabilitation Techniques II
Neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, joint mobilization, prosthetics/orthotics, muscle testing, and isokinetic exercise. Emphasis on proficiency in "hands on" techniques. Prerequisites: (PTA201, PTA205, and PTA256), or permission of department. Prerequisites or Corequisites: PTA207 or permission of department.

3. Describe the basic concepts of neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) in relation to physical therapy. (II)
4. Explain the steps of an NDT evaluation for patients receiving physical therapy. (II)
5. Describe the clinical applications of NDT in the physical therapy practice setting. (II)
6. Treat selected patients using NDT techniques in the physical therapy practice setting according to safe and professional standards. (II)
7. Describe the basic concepts of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) in relation to physical therapy. (III)

14. Describe the basic concepts of joint mobilization used in physical therapy and explain the indications/contraindications for joint mobilization for specific patients. (VI)
15. Apply basic mobilization techniques of the extremity joints and the spine in selected patients in the physical therapy practice setting. (VI)
16. Describe the application of advanced exercise equipment in the rehabilitation process. (VII)
17. Describe acute care physical therapy management of patients with specific athletic injuries. (VIII)
18. Describe the principles of rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremity amputee treated in the physical therapy practice setting. (IX)
19. Describe common gait problems of above-knee and below-knee amputees and list the considerations for proper prosthetic fit for these patients. (IX)
20. Define "orthoses" and describe common orthoses used for the spine, and for the upper and lower extremities. (X)
21. Describe the affects of lower extremity orthoses on gait. (X)
22. Describe the method of muscle testing used in physical therapy and explain evaluations according to strength grades. (XI)
23. Test muscles of the trunk and the extremities and assign the appropriate strength grade for selected patients in the physical therapy practice setting. (XI)
24. Document clinical tests and advanced therapeutic exercise techniques in accordance with professional standards. (XII)
