Nursing Science II
Crisis intervention and adaptation when stress permeates the holistic person's normal line of defense and internal lines of resistance with resulting physical or psychological imbalances in people of all ages. Further development and implementation of the nursing process as previously learned skills for specific acute and chronic health problems are expanded in normal obstetric and medical-surgical patients. Prerequisites: NUR110 with a grade of "C" or better.

1. Describe physiological, psychological, and educational needs from the antepartal through the parental bonding phases.
2. Describe the physiological and behavioral characteristics of a normal newborn.
3. Perform basic nursing care for the newborn and obstetric patients.
4. Identify the holistic needs of individual patients, to include crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, and stress adaptation responses.

8. Identify nursing care and teaching/treatment plans for patients with altered functions associated with acid-base, circulatory, diabetic, gastrointestinal, immunological, orthopedic, and respiratory dysfunctions.
9. Demonstrate infection control measures, including medical and surgical asepsis, which are used in the nursing care of obstetric and medical-surgical patients.
10. Administer total nursing care, including oral and injectable medications, to a group of adult patients.
11. Prepare, calculate, and administer oral, mucous membrane absorbed, andinjectable medications.
12. Use the nursing process in providing care for a group of patients with increasingly complex needs and diagnoses.
13. Demonstrate the nursing role in preparing, assisting, and providing care for patients undergoing diagnostic tests and/or therapeutic procedures.
14. Use a variety of computerized clinical case simulations to enhance critical thinking and decision making skills.
15. Describe the ethical and legal responsibilities of the nurse.
