Outpatient/HMO Pharmacy Internship
Application of pharmacy technician knowledge and skills in the outpatient/Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) settings. Transcription of orders into prescription labels, calculation of tablets/volume amount for outpatient prescriptions. Application of ethical and legal aspects to pharmacy practice.
Prerequisites: Typing proficiency of 35 WPM and PHT102, PHT/SGT/ULS106, PHT107, PHT108 and PHT109 or permission of Department or Division.

1. Apply ethical and legal aspects of pharmacy practice. (I)
2. Demonstrate manipulative and record keeping skills associated with dispensing of medications. (II)
3. Transcribe specific orders onto a prescription label utilizing lay terminology and equivalent household measurements. (III)
4. Calculate total tablets or volume amount for outpatient prescriptions. (IV)
5. Demonstrate speed and accuracy on computer, typewriter, cash register and in change making skills according to pharmaceutical standards. (V)
6. Perform inventory control functions including check in and stocking. (VI)
7. Participate in quality assurance projects including drug recalls and drug defect reporting. (VII)
8. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, customers and health care personnel. (VIII)
9. Recognize commonly used drugs by generic and trade name. (IX)
10. Maintain the pharmacy area in a safe and clean manner. (X)
