Respiratory Care Fundamentals I
Introduction to respiratory care. Background information on data collection for basic patient assessment and basic skills in medical gas therapy, humidity and aerosol therapy, intermittant positive pressure breathing, chest physiotherapy, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Prerequisites: Admission into the program.

1. Review existing data, history and respiratory care orders. (I)
2. Observe and evaluate pertinent clinical signs and symptoms. (II)
3. Utilizing respiratory care equipment and patient data, initiate, conduct or modify prescribed basic therapeutic procedures to achieve one or more specific therapeutic objectives. (III)
4. Initiate, conduct or modify cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques as indicated in an emergency setting. (IV)
5. Perform basic airway maintenance and conduct therapeutic procedures toachieve maintenance of a patient airway. (V)
6. Demonstrate the skills necessary to perform day to day interactions and communications in written and verbal language with patients and other health care workers. (I, II, III, IV)
7. Demonstrate appropriate ethical, legal and professional job behaviors. (I, II, III, IV, V)
8. Utilizing mathematical formulas, calculate appropriate measurements. (I, III)
