Preparation for the National Surgical Technology
Certification Examination. Review of the content specifications, techniques
for preparation and review of current literature determined by the Liaison
Council on Certification for Surgical Technologists. Prerequisites: Qualified individuals
preparing for the certification exam or permission of Department or Division.

1. Demonstrate
the areas described by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical
Assisting (NBSTSA) on Certification for the Surgical Technologist examinations
content specifications. (I)
2. Describe
an overview of basic sciences, specifying the anatomy and physiology that
applies to surgical technology. (II)
3. Describe
applications to microbiology, pharmacology and anesthesia specific to clinical
situations and procedures. (III)
4. Demonstrate
principles related to asepsis, principles of patient care,
identification/classification and occupational hazards. (IV, V)
5. Describe
the surgical principles and their application to physical environment and the
patient. (V, XX)
6. Describe
surgical preparation and medical terminology as it pertains to basic surgical
set-up and technological sciences.(VI, XI, XII, XIV)
7. Demonstrate
surgical process related to indication for surgery, sequence and facilitation
of procedures. (VII)
8. Demonstrate
the correct instrumentation and equipment and the proper care, handling and
usage of instruments and equipment. (VIII)
