Hispanic Literature in Translation

 

Survey of representative works of Peninsular Spanish and Latin American literature from early times to the present in English translation.

Prerequisites: None.

 

Course Notes: Knowledge of Spanish is not required. SPH250 may be repeated for a total of six (6) credit hours.

1.         Read and analyze selected representative works of Peninsular Spanish and Latin American literature. (II-IV)

2.         Describe early influences on Peninsular Spanish and Latin American literature. (I)

3.         Correlate the history and culture of the Spanish-speaking world with the literature it has produced. (I-IV)

4.         Outline the major elements of each literary genre: poetry, prose, and drama. (II-IV)

5.         Analyze representative literature with attention to character development, structure, language usage, and style, drawing upon historical and cultural references. (I-IV)
