History of Physical Therapy. Purpose, benefits, and goals
of the Arizona and American Physical Therapy Associations (APTA). Roles and
responsibilities of physical therapists (PT) and physical therapist
assistants (PTA). Patient care, legal issues, principles of physical therapy
treatment, education requirements, and functions of the American Physical
Therapy Association. Prerequisites: Admission to the Physical
Therapist Assisting Program, or permission of Department or Division. |

1. Describe
the historical events critical to the development of the Physical Therapy
profession. (I)
2. Outline
the key elements of physical therapy (PT) evaluation and therapeutic
interventions for persons with physical impairments. (II)
3. Compare
and contrast the roles of physical therapist (PT) and physical therapy
assistant (PTA) and PT technician/aide in selected practice settings. (II)
4. Describe
typical case management of individuals with physical impairments. (II, VII-XI)
5. Compare
and contrast the education and scopes of practice between Physical Therapists
and Physical Therapist Assistants. (III)
6. Describe
the role of the PT and PTA in relation to the medical team/community. (III)
7. Describe
the structure of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and its role
in the profession. (IV)
8. Describe
the structure of the Arizona Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and its role
in the profession. (IV)
9. Explain
and apply the relevant laws, regulations, and policies regulating physical
therapy in Arizona. (V)
10. Explain and
apply the relevant standards of ethics for the physical therapist assistant.

11. Describe
current issues influencing the practice of physical therapy and their impact in
