MEC232  2009 Fall – 2010 Fall

Advanced Construction Pipe Trades III

1.         Discuss advanced pipe fabrication including layout and fabrication of specific piping systems. (I)

2.         Calculate piping offsets, simple offsets, and three-line, 45 degree, equal and unequal spread offsets using triangular or prescribed methods and procedures. (II)

3.         Layout tank coils, ordinate lines, and cutback lines using tables, formulas, and resource materials. (III)

4.         Fabricate mitered turns determining number of segments, finding center-to center length, finding length of end pieces, three piece, four piece, and five piece mitered turns. (IV)

5.         Demonstrate lateral dimensions using step by step procedures for the Reference Method and the Contour Marker Methods. (V)

6.         Discuss fabricating of “True Wye” fittings considering factors of layout and measure; cut material; clean and bevel; and fit up, check and weld. (VI)

7.         Explain the function and layout of “Dummy Legs” and “Trunions.” (VII)

8.         Discuss work planning including daily work activities for the pipefitters, coordinating with other crafts, establishing safe working conditions, and field checking. (VIII)

9.         Determine material needs including take-offs, equipment and materials, pipefitting task preparation, and sequencing operations of a specific task. (IX)

10.       Discuss Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) of materials including terms, visual inspections, prefit-up inspections, visual inspections for fit-ups, root passes, and inspecting completed welds. (X)
