Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Response of human bone and soft-tissue to injury. Orthopedic management and physical therapy procedures for common injuries of the extremities and spine. Common orthopedic surgeries. Joint mobilization techniques. Body mechanics and therapeutic exercise programs. Documentation procedures.

Prerequisites: Admission to Physical Therapist Assisting Program or permission of Department or Division.

Describe the response of human bone and soft tissue to injury. (I)

Describe the theories and principles of proper body mechanics. (II)

Demonstrate the techniques of proper body mechanics. (II)

Instruct novices in specific principles and techniques of proper body mechanics. (II)

Describe specific orthopedic conditions of the human spine. (II)

Describe the physical therapy management of select orthopedic conditions of the spine. (II)

Implement therapeutic exercise programs for patients with select orthopedic conditions of the spine. (II)

Integrate goniometry, range of motion (ROM), therapeutic exercise, manual muscle testing, massage, and thermomodality techniques in the rehabilitation of select spinal orthopedic conditions. (II)
