Construction Pipe Trades II

Hand and power tools. Motorized and engine driven equipment. Ladders and scaffolds. Pipe cutting and installation techniques. Related Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

Prerequisites: Registered apprentice status or permission of apprenticeship coordinator.

Construction Pipe Trades II

 

1.

Discuss safe use, care and maintenance of basic hand and power tools. (I)

2.

Demonstrate safe use, care and maintenance of specific pipefitting tools including vises and stands, pipe wrenches, levels, pipe fabrication tools, cutting tools, benders, and flaring tools. (II)

3.

Demonstrate safe use, care and maintenance of specific power driven pipefitting tools including electric and pneumatic saws, grinders, threading machines, power drives, and bevels. (III)

4.

Demonstrate safe use, care, and maintenance of engine driven equipment including generators, welding machines, light towers, pumps, and air compressors. (IV)

5.

Demonstrate safe use, care, and maintenance of forklift trucks and hydraulic cranes. (IV)

6.

Discuss specific types of ladders and scaffolds including safe set up and use. (V)

7.

Demonstrate safe set up and use of specific ladders and scaffolds and apply OSHA regulations. (V)

8.

Discuss and demonstrate pipe cutting and installation including procedures and conditions which effect the operation of oxyacetylene equipment. (VI)

9.

Describe and demonstrate proper techniques for straight and bevel cuts on carbon steel plate using a wrap-around. (VII)

10.

Describe and demonstrate installation techniques for pipe hangers, supports, and rod attachments, masonry anchors. (VIII)

11.

Describe layout and fabrication of brackets. (IX)
