Respiratory Care Advanced Life Support
Airway management for the adult, pediatric patient. Endotracheal and suctioning procedures. Use of specific medications for cardiovascular emergencies. Interpretation of Electrocardiograms (ECG) dysrhythmias. Perform defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion in simulated situations. Procedure to be followed during cardiovascular collapse. Special resuscitation techniques for adult, pediatric patients. Current American Heart Association validation in Advance Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS).
Prerequisites: Current Health Care Provider CPR card or EMT/HCC/RES109.

1. Manage the airway of adult, pediatric patients. (I)
2. Apply an oxygen delivery system to an adult, pediatric patient, noting the percentage of oxygen delivered. (I)
3. Perform endotracheal intubation and suctioning techniques on an adult, pediatric patient. (I)
4. Identify the indications, contraindications, side effects, uses and dosages of the medications specific to adult, pediatric cardiovascular emergencies. (II, III)
5. Interpret basis EKG dysrhythmias. (II)
6. Under simulated situations, perform defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion in the adult pediatric patient. (IV)
7. Given patient simulations involving cardiovascular collapse, identify the steps in the care of adult, pediatric patients using current American Heart Association Guidelines. (IV)
8. Describe special resuscitation techniques for adult, pediatric patients. (V)
9. Complete written exam with the required level of proficiency and skills evaluations to meet American Heart Association standards for ACLS, PALS, certification. (VI)
