Introduction to the Tradition and Practice of Yoga II

Examination of the art and science of yoga. Explores the history and philosophy of yoga. In-depth review of significant literature associated with the yoga tradition. Examines cultural aspects of yoga, relevancy of yoga to modern day life and health benefits of yoga.

Identify and explain the historical and spiritual traditions of yoga philosophy and practice. (I)

Identify and analyze the significant literature related to the philosophy and practice of yoga. (II)

Explain the relevance and benefits of yoga to modern day life and describe major issues and trends related to its practice. (II)

4.

Describe and explain the cultural significance of rituals and celebrations associated with the yoga tradition. (III)

5.

Identify various deities associated with the yoga tradition and explain their cultural relevance. (III)

6.

Describe the mental health benefits to individuals that may be associated with yoga, including changes in emotional/psychological functioning and subtle body anatomy. (IV)

7.

Describe the physical health benefits to individuals that may be associated with yoga including the effects of changes in dietary and therapeutic practices. (IV)
