Development
of clinical competency in the performance of selected nursing skills and
procedures. Emphasis on basic data collection skills and promotion of
wellness by using holistic nursing principles for clients. Includes use of
healthy life style strategies for health promotion. Basic pharmacology
knowledge and skills to administer medications. Emphasis on developing the
role of the practical nurse using critical thinking skills for safe practice
in the administration of medications. Introduction and application of
mathematical concepts to drug dosage calculations. Participation in the care
of clients experiencing problems of alteration in health and selected mental
health disorders. Application of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology,
microbiology, and nutrition to health promotion, disease/illness prevention,
and health restoration of individuals. Emphasis on care of the elderly client
in long term care. Introduction of care of clients and families in acute and
community settings. Prerequisites: Admission into the Fast
Track Practical Nursing Program. |
