Data interpretation, equipment operation and therapeutic procedures specified for the National Board for Respiratory Care Entry Level Therapist examination. Quality control and therapeutic procedures. Pharmacologic agents and treatment of cardiopulmonary collapse. Pulmonary rehabilitation and home care.

I. Data Analysis

A. Review existing data in patient record and recommend diagnostic procedures

B. Collect and evaluate clinical information

C. Perform procedures and interpret results

D. Determine the appropriateness of therapy and participate in the development of the respiratory care plan.

E. Recommend modifications in the respiratory care plan

II. Equipment Operation and Assembly

A. Select, obtain and assure equipment cleanliness.

B. Assemble and check equipment for proper function.

C. Identify equipment malfunctions and take actions to correct malfunction

D. Perform quality control procedures

III. Therapeutic Procedures

A. Explain planed therapeutic goals to the patient.

B. Maintain records and communication

C. Protect patients from nosocomial infections

D. Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain a patent airway and remove secretions

E. Conduct therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation and ventilation

F. Evaluate and monitor patient response to respiratory care

G. Recommend modifications in therapeutics

H. Recommend pharmacologic agents
