Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Didactic and psychomotor skill education and training in techniques of Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Includes endotracheal intubation, defibrillation, dysrhythmia recognition, pharmacology, and intraosseous infusion. Required for American Heart Association Provider approval and validation. Prerequisites: Current course in American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR or National Safety Council Green Cross Professional Rescuer CPR, EMT235, EMT236 or permission of instructor.

EMT242   19996-20005 Pediatric Advanced Life Support
1. Successfully insert oral and nasal airways. (I,IV, V)
2. Correctly apply the face mask, nasal cannula and bag-valve-mask devices, nothing the percentage of oxygen delivered for each adjunct. (I,IV,V)
3. Correctly perform endotracheal intubation (I,IV,V)
4. Correctly interpret the basic EKG rhythm disturbances. (II,V)
5. Indentify the dysrthythmia and predict the anticipated mechanical, pharmacologic, and electrical intervention. (II,V)
6. For each medication, discuss the indications, contraindications, use and abuse. (III)
7. Perform all the skills in basic life support for "C" level certification i.e., one - and two-person CPR for adult and child; conscious and unconscious obstructed maneuvers for adult, child, and infant victims; CPR for infants victims. (V,VI)
8. Given a patient simulation for unstable supraventricular tachycardia and venticular fibrillation, verbalize amd safely perform electrical interventions (V,VI)
9. Given a pediatric crisis situation, manage each member of the team, evaluating CPR, airway management, electrical, and pharmacologic intervetion. (VI)
10. Complete a written exam of 50 multiple choice questions covering all materials with no less than 84% proficiency. (VII)
