Assistant Teaching in Early Childhood Settings I
Supervised application of principles of child growth and development in early childhood programs by assisting a classroom teacher in providing age-appropriate play and learning experiences in one of the following settings: a child care center, a preschool, a primary grade classroom or a special education program. Prerequisites: (CFS176 or ECH176) and permission of instructor.

1. Consult with faculty coordinator to determine a placement appropriate to career goals.
2. Apply early childhood development principles to work experience in the assigned program.
3. Communicate and interact effectively with young children, family members, and program personnel as appropriate.
4. Record and share a reflective journal of experiences and learning in the program on a regular basis with the faculty coordinator.
5. Visit two additional early childhood programs and compare and contrast these programs with the placement program.
6. Demonstrate an awareness of differences in early childhood program goals and types and evaluate for developmentally appropriate practices.
