Advanced Medical Ultrasound Procedures
Presentation of advanced topics in ultrasound including state of the art equipment. Superficial organs, heart and vessels, neurosonography, musculoskeletal, intraoperative, and interventional procedures. Aseptic technique, medical-legal and patient archiving for performance of advanced sonographic examinations. Prerequisites: Admission into the Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology program or permission of instructor.

1. Describe equipment and scan protocols used for performance of ultrasound examinations. (I)
2. Describe the anatomy and pathology of the neck, scrotum, testes, penis, prostate, breast, gastrointestinal tract and abdominal wall. (II, VII)
3. Describe and demonstrate the anatomy and pathology of blood flow in the heart and vessels using Doppler, gray scale and color ultrasound. (III, VII)
4. Describe the technique of ultrasound in recognizing normal and abnormal anatomy in neurological and musculoskeletal ultrasound. (IV, VI, VII)
5. Define the role of ultrasound in interventional and intraoperative procedures, including the use of contrast agents, aseptic technique and surgical applications. (V, IX)
6. Discuss the role of ultrasound in medicine regarding medical- legal, ethics and patients rights. (VIII)
7. Describe and demonstrate the current correct procedures for protecting patients and health care workers using current Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA) guidelines during sonographic procedures. (IX)
8. Describe the current trends in patient information and archiving, image processing, communication systems, and display as well as future trends in imaging. (X)
