CLINICAL PRACTICUM I
Introduction to patient processing, nuclear medicine imaging procedures, imaging equipment, related instrumentation, radiopharmaceutical injection, and darkroom procedures. Assist with quality assurance procedures. Safety guidelines. Prerequisites: Admission to the Nuclear Medicine program or permission of program director.

DMI264   19986-20035 CLINICAL PRACTICUM I
1. Perform proper patient processing procedures to include patient scheduling, processing of examination requests, patient transportation, and filing procedures. (I)
2. Assist the technologist with nuclear medicine procedures to include the use of imaging equipment/related instrumentation, and radiopharmaceutical injection. (II)
3. Perform film handling procedures to include film labeling, cassette loading, processing, and troubleshooting. (III)
4. Assist the technologist with quality control procedures. (IV)
5. Describe the need for and provide proper patient care techniques to include patient observation, safety/comfort, charts, transportation, sterile asepsis, isolation techniques, and immobilization techniques. (V)
6. Use standard radiation protection techniques to include handling radioactive materials, wearing film badges, and proper waste disposal. (VI)
7. Demonstrate appropriate ethical, legal, and professional job- related behavior. (VII)
8. Communicate appropriately with patients, physicians, and other members of the health care team. (VIII)
9. Comply with safety guidelines established by the appropriate federal, state and other regulatory agencies. (IX)
