Analysis and assessment of economic relations of Eastern Europe with emphasis on foreign trade planning and management, countertrade, East-West business psychology and NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) country embargo policies and controls.

1. Identify major geographical and topographical features of Eastern Europe. (I)
2. Identify the various countries and regions of Eastern Europe. (I)
3. List major cities and economic centers of Eastern Europe. (I)
4. Explain the postwar partition of Europe; "the Iron Curtain", as well as the events which culminated in its fall in 1989- 90. (II)
5. Review the history of the ethnic migrations that settled Eastern Europe over the time. (II)
6. Identify important events and rulers from the accession of Christianity after Charlemagne, Mieszko and Geza and their successors. (II)
7. Identify major historic conquests and divisions of the region. (II)
8. Review the history of programs and denial of basic rights. (II)
9. List the circumstances leading up to World War I and the post war agreements that created many of today's East European states. (II)
10. Review the history of World War II and the Genocide which was perpetrated in Eastern Europe. (II)
11. Explain the pre-20th century economic basis of Eastern Europe. (III)
12. Describe the progress of industrialization efforts of the first 30 years of this century and the effects of the Depression on Eastern Europe. (III)
13. Relate the effects of the second World War on Eastern Europe. (III)
14. Relate the effects of more than 40 years of Communist rule on Eastern Europe. (III)
15. Discuss the challenges and difficulties facing Eastern European countries as they attempt to catch up with the rest of the Free World as well as the opportunities and risks that Western businesses face in doing business in the area. (III)
16. Identify issues affecting the ability of Americans to reach successful agreements with Eastern European firms. (IV)
17. Understand difficulties faced by Eastern European firms attempting to trade with the West. (IV)
18. Become familiar with the necessity of Eastern European governments to conduct international business on a non-cash (barter) basis. (IV)
19. Identify the technology level of voice, data and video communications used in business in this region. (V)
20. Utilize a list search to locate a group or individual involved in international business to communicate with via the Internet. (V)
