Performance of complete blood counts with reading of differential slides limited to basic normal patterns. Performance of sedimentation rates. Overview of basic automated procedures.

1. Identify basic equipment utilized in the hematology section of the laboratory in a medical/clinical setting. (I)
2. Utilize basic selected hematological testing equipment found in a medical/clinical setting. (I)
3. Identify normal values for all procedures performed. (II)
4. Perform unopette counts of white blood cells and thrombocytes. (III)
5. Perform automated complete blood counts. (IV)
6. Perform micro-hematocrit determination using micro-hematocrit centrifugation. (V)
7. Perform erythrocyte sedimentation rates. (VI)
8. Prepare acceptible slides for differential staining. (VII)
9. Stain blood films using the Wright stain technique. (VIII)
10. Perform basic normal differentials of Wright stained smears under supervision. (IX)
11. Identify abnormal differentials to be referred to the appropriate medical/clinical practitioner for review. (IX)
12. Describe and appropriately utilize controls when testing. (X)
