English as a Second Language III-Listening and Speaking
Emphasis on listening and speaking skills related primarily to the academic environment. Asking questions, working in small groups, using college resources, informal oral presentation. May be repeated for a maximum of six credits. Prerequisites: Appropriate ESL placement test score.

2. Use idiomatic expressions and separable verb phrases. (I)
3. Use perfect tenses to describe actions with reference pooints in present, past, future. (I)
4. Describe similarities and differences using transition words, (such as however, but, likewise, also, in spite of, etc.) in simple and compound sentences. (I)
5. Use modals to make requests and show need and ability. (I)
6. Ask questions using tag forms to request confirmation. (I)
7. Ask for and respond to requests for favors with appropriate words and actions. (I, II)
8. Ask for and give opinions, showing appropriate listening behavior. (I, II)
9. Give and acknowledge compliments and complaints verbally and non-verbally. (I, II)
10. Repeat to requests with actions. (II)
11. Respond to requests with actions. (II)
12. Demonstrate understanding of narrative with actions, drawings, gestures, and other non-verbal behavior. (II)
