Elementary Latin II

Comparative study of English and Latin grammar. Emphasis on analytical thinking, memorization, and familiarization with new terminology. Translation from English and from original works in Latin.

Prerequisites: LAT101 or permission of Instructor.

Identify adjectives, regular or irregular, according to gender, number, and case. (I)

Form and/or identify the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and decline them. (I)

Use and translate the imperfect subjunctive and the plu- perfect and perfect subjunctive active and passive. (II)

5.

Identify and/or form adverbs in their positive, comparative, and superlative degrees. (III)

6.

Identify and/or form the basic clauses in a conditional sentence. (IV)

7.

Identify and conjugate regular, irregular, and deponent verbs in all moods and tenses, active and passive. (V)

8.

Correctly use the transitive and intransitive verb forms in coordinate and subordinate clauses. (VI)

Use the irregular verbs in both sentence formation and translation. (VII)

10.

Describe the functions of prepositional, adjectival, adverbial, participial, gerund, and infinitive phrases. (VIII)

11.

Use and translate the cardinal and ordinal numerals. (IX)

12.

Read and paraphrase in English passages from the original works of Roman authors and some early Christian writers. (X)

13.

Translate from Latin without the constant assistance of reference books. (I-X)
