Scientific and critical evaluation of work done in dance technique allowing the student to engage in in-depth discussion of the theory and practice of dance. Prerequisites: None. Corequisites: DAN131 or DAN132 or DAN133 or DAN134 or DAN135 or DAN136 or DAN231 or DAN232 or DAN233 or DAN234 or DAN235 or DAN236 for dance majors.

1. Demonstrate a kinesthetic understanding of dance technique both individually and collaboratively. (I, II, III, IV)
2. Examine movement in its basic elements and demonstrate both individually and collaboratively. (I, II, III, IV)
3. Analyze the basic elements of dance: space, time and energy with particular attention to rhythm and syncopation. (IV, V)
4. Illustrate the theory of contraction and release. (I, II)
5. Dramatize an understanding of the theory of rotation. (I, II)
6. Summarize basic rhythmic analysis and the impact of polyrhythms and syncopation on dance technique. (IV, V)
7. Analyze the theory of the body's relationship to gravity and/or center of gravity used in dance technique. (I, II, III, IV, V)
8. Critique basic performance skills including musicality, phrasing and projection. (IV, V)
