First Aid
First aid in a law enforcement environment, including basic functions of the major organs of the human body, impaired breathing, cardiac conditions, resuscitation, control of bleeding, movement of injured persons, shock, injury, childbirth, extrication of victims in confined or hazardous locations, and legal and civil issues associated with rendering emergency care. Prerequisites: None.

6. Demonstrate the ability to check a person's vital signs. (IV)
7. Demonstrate techniques used to palpate a pulse. (IV)
8. Identify the various types of bleeding and demonstrate the proper technique for reducing the flow of blood produced by an artery, a vein, and a capillary. (V)
9. Describe the signs of inadequate/impaired breathing. (V)

11. Demonstrate the correct procedure to perform one- and two - rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an adult as well as one - rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a child and an infant. (V)
12. Outline the precautions and safeguards of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (V)
13. Name the signs and symptoms of shock, and describe methods for the treatment of shock. (V)
14. Define anaphylactic shock, and describe the treatment for it. (V)
15. List the treatment steps, management procedures, appropriate care, and safeguards for specific illnesses and/or injuries. (V)
16. Identify the signs and symptoms of cervical spinal fracture/injury and the procedure to stabilize and manage a victim. (V)
17. Describe the procedures useful to law enforcement officers when confronted with normal and abnormal childbirth. (V)
18. Demonstrate the proper technique for lifting and moving a person with and without a spinal injury. (V)
