Arrest/Defense Tactics
Proper use of lethal and non-lethal defensive tactics, techniques of stopping and approaching suspects in vehicles and on foot, and the custody and transportation of prisoners. Emphasis on basic safety and protection for both the officer and violator during initial contact, arrest, and transportation. Prerequisites: None.

1. Demonstrate the ability to make a lawful arrest, handcuff and an effective search of a person. (I-VI)
2. Identify appropriate procedures for conducting opposite gender searches. (VI)
3. Demonsrate the ability to apply and exercise the safeguards of a control hold and takedown tactic. (VII)
4. Identify responsibilities of a cover officer when subjects are interviewed, handcuffed or searched. (VIII)

12. Describe physical deadly force and explain the justification for when and how to use such force. (XIII)
13. Identify the liabilities associated with the lawful use of physical of deadly force when there is injury or death of an innocent third party. (XIII)
14. Identify the vital human body points and bone protrusions which are target areas when employing the police baton or flashlight. (XIV)
15. Demonstrate the ability to employ the police baton or flashlight and explain if the blow delivered would be crippling, disabling or fatal. (XV, XVI)
