Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructional Strategies
A participative course to prepare advanced EMTs (Paramedics), physicians, and/or nurses as instructors in Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses. Includes American Heart Association Standards and guidelines, teaching and testing skills, writing objectives, preparing class and course schedules, preparing for lectures, developing and using audio visual (AV) aides; processing assignments and exams, classroom discipline, counseling, and student/instructor evaluation methods. Successful completion qualifies individual to teach Advanced Cardiac Life Support Classes. Prerequisites: Current certification as Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider and (State of Arizona EMT [Paramedic] certification or Arizona Registered Nurse or licensed physician).

1. List the components required in an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course according to standards set by the American Heart Association (I)
2. Define and describe the concepts of adult learning as they relate to students in Emergency Medical Technology (EMT). (II - V)
3. Design a lecture outline to include identification of time, AV aides, and any student study guides. (II, IV, V)
4. Apply teaching principles in the design of lecture objectives, course syllabi, and lesson plans. (III)
5. Use effectively all AV and EMT equipment. (II, IV, V)
6. Design teaching methods for skills to include airway management, intravenous access, defibrillation and cardioversion, and mega code techniques. (III, IV)
7. Develop an evaluation tool. (VI)
8. Prepare appropriate documentation for the American Heart Association at the completion of an ACLS course. (VII)
