Instructional Strategies For EMT Occupations
Participative course to prepare all levels of EMT and/or nurses as instructors in EMT programs. Includes writing objectives, preparing class and course schedules, reviewing Arizona Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations, preparing for lecture, developing and using AV (audio visual) aides, processing assignments and exams, classroom discipline, counseling, and student/instructor evaluation methods. Prerequisites: Arizona Department of Health Services certification as a Basic EMT, or Intermediate EMT, or Advanced EMT (Paramedic), or Arizona registered nurse with two-years experience in emergency nursing.

1. List the components required in any level Emergency Medical Technology(EMT) course according to standards set by the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) and the Arizona Department of Health Services office of Emergency Medical Services (A-DHS O-EMS) and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) (I)
2. Define and describe the concepts of adult learning as they relate to students in EMT (II _ V)
3. Apply teaching principles in the design of lecture objectives, course syllabi, and lesson plans. (III)
4. Design a lecture outline to include identification of time, AV aides, and any studen study guides. (II, IV, V)
5. Use effectively all AV and EMT equipment. (II, IV, V)
6. Design teaching methods for skills to include airway management, administrating oxygen, immobillization techniques, and application of pneumatic antishock garment (PASG). (III, IV)
7. Develop an evaluation tool. (VI)
8. Prepare appropriate documentation for the American Heart Association (AHA), the A-DHS O-EMS, and NREMT. (VII)
