Prehospital Nursing - Basic
Prepares the registered nurse for a primary role during transportation of ill and injured patients. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patients. Advanced cardiac life support, trauma patient management, telemetry, and communications. Prerequisites: (Current RN [registered nurse] license with two years recent experience in intensive care and/or emergency department nursing, or EMT with advanced certification), and current validation in advanced cardiac life support from the American Heart Association.

4. Communicate using portable devices according to FCC (Federal Communication Commission) regulations with appropriate medical control. (I)
5. Document patient history, assessment, interventions including mechanical, pharmacological, and electrical interventions utilized in the care and transport of patients. (I)
6. Identify the disease process(es) in a given adult or pediatric situation in which one or more of the body systems is involved. (II)
7. Select the appropriate mechanical, pharmacological, and/or electric intervention, invasive/non-invasive technique(s) in a given adult or pediatric situation. (II, III, V-X)
8. Perform the appropriate intervention in a given adult or pediatric situation. (II-X)
9. Evaluate the response of the patient(s) to the intervention(s). (II-X)
10. Identify and treat any life-support emergencies. (II-X)
11. Manage patients and self during disentanglement. (II-X)
