infant, the preadolescent to menopausal patient, the gerodontic
patient, the edentulous patient, the oral surgery patient, and the
medically compromised patient; the patient with a cleft lip or palate,
oral cancer, epilepsy, mental retardation, physical or sensory
disabilities, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, alcoholism,
and periodontal disease; and the patient who is homebound, bedridden,

as a general description of characteristics, complicating factors,
patient instruction, and dental hygiene therapy required, nutritional
factors and emergency considerations for a particular special need.
