Clinical Theory I
Expansion of basic information on dental hygiene therapy, emphasizing skills needed for assessment and treatment of individual cases in clinical practice. Prerequisites: DHE102 or permission of instructor.

1. Describe the procedure of obtaining and maintaining an aseptic chain. (I)
2. Identify and evaluate the functional conditions of a patient's teeth in regard to jaw relationships, malposition of individual teeth, relationship of groups of teeth, oral habits, attrition, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and centric relation-centric occlusion discrepancies. (II)
3. Describe types of symptomatic treatment for medical conditions or emergencies. (II)
4. Identify existing conditions in the mouth during an intraoral inspection. (II)
5. Describe and perform periodontal assessment. (II)
6. Assess necessary treatment and organize and record the sequence of procedures for a series of appointments with a patient requiring treatment. (III)
7. Identify the topical fluoride compound to provide the patient with maximum caries protection; identify various methods of application. (III)
