Pharmacology
Terminology, pharmacological principles of drug action and the therapeutic and toxicological effect of clinically important drugs in medical and dental practice. Emphasis given to drugs in dentistry. Prerequisites: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program or permission of instructor.

4. Discuss the history of various regulating acts and agencies with emphasis on the ADA (American Dental Association) Council on Dental Therapeutics. (II)
5. Describe a prescription, the parts contained in a prescription, and thelaws governing prescription writing. (II)
6. Discuss the routes of administration for a drug including advantages and disadvantages of each. (III)
7. Describe the factors that effect a patient's response to a drug including absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and synergism. (III)

9. Describe the techniques of drug administration including schedules of controlled drugs and prescription order requirements. (II)
