Firearms
Overview of the legal justification for firearms usage, firearms safety and nomenclature, basic firearms usage techniques, unloading and reloading techniques, presentation, night firing techniques, judgmental shooting situations, care and cleaning as it pertains to the officers' service weapons, and choice of a revolver or semi-automatic pistol. Prerequisites: None.

1. Define "breath control" and demonstrate the proper technique for breath control during firearm usage. (I)
2. Define "grip" and demonstrate the proper technique for gripping a service firearm. (I)
3. Define "sight alignment" and "sight picture" and demonstrate the proper technique for both when using a service firearm. (I)
4. Define "trigger control" and "follow through", and demonstrate the proper technique for both when using a service firearm. (I)
5. Identify the build-in safety features of a service handgun. (II)
6. Explain how to load and unload a service handgun correctly. (II)
7. Show how to render safe a service handgun. (II)
8. Demonstrate the proper techniques for the care and cleaning of a service handgun. (II)
9. Describe the conditions which must be present to justify the use of deadly force. (III)
10. Explain the various department policies on the use of deadly force. (III)
11. Define the concept of "reasonable force." (III)
12. Define "negligence." (III)
13. Using service ammunition, demonstrate the ability to safely qualify with a service handgun on the ALEOAC daytime and nighttime firearms qualification courses. (IV)
14. Demonstrate the ability to qualify on the ALEOAC target identification and discrimination course. (IV)
